A tourist boat moves through an Amsterdam canal beneath an old bridge, surrounded by a dense rhythm of historic canal houses. Dark burgundy, orange, blue and pale façades rise behind the water, while green trees and the bridge railing add a fresh counterpoint to the architecture. The boat enters the composition from the lower left, giving the scene a sense of movement and the impression of a fleeting view observed from the canal.

Mathias paints the city through layered acrylic colour, visible brushwork and freely shaped architectural forms. The houses remain recognisably Amsterdam, but their windows, gables and narrow proportions are interpreted through painterly blocks of light and colour rather than precise detail. Reflections and broken strokes across the water connect the boat, bridge and buildings into one lively urban rhythm.

The old bridge forms the structural centre of the composition. Its dark underside and green railing create a strong horizontal passage, while the tourist boat introduces motion below it. This balance between architecture and movement gives the painting both stability and energy, capturing Amsterdam as a lived city rather than a static postcard image.

The dark green wooden frame echoes the trees, bridge railing and reflections within the scene. The paint extends irregularly from the canvas onto the frame, softening the boundary between the painted image and its support. The frame is permanently integrated into the artwork and forms part of the composition itself.

The canvas is permanently mounted onto a 6 mm board made from natural hardwood and set within an integrated pinewood frame approximately 3 cm wide. The total dimensions, including the frame, are 47 × 37 cm, with a depth of 2 cm. The surface is protected with varnish. The original painting is signed by Mathias and ready to hang.

This compact horizontal cityscape brings colour, movement and a strong Amsterdam identity into an interior. It is especially suited to collectors drawn to canal architecture, bridges and the everyday activity of the city, and to those looking for an original hand-painted Amsterdam scene with a contemporary impressionistic character.
