A white tourist boat moves across an Amsterdam canal, passing beneath a low brick bridge and a row of colourful historic houses. Reflections of blue, green, ochre and red break across the water, while the bright boat creates a clear visual focus in the foreground. Trees and canal architecture frame the scene, capturing the lively yet familiar atmosphere of Amsterdam from the water.

Mathias interprets the city through broad areas of colour, visible brushwork and layered acrylic texture rather than precise architectural detail. The houses remain recognisably Amsterdam, but their façades, roofs and windows are softened into painterly shapes. The movement of the boat and the broken reflections give the composition its rhythm, creating an impression of a passing moment rather than a static city view.

The dark green wooden frame echoes the trees and reflections within the painting. Irregular edges of blue paint extend from the canvas onto the frame, deliberately blurring the division between the painted scene and its presentation. The frame is permanently integrated into the artwork and forms part of the composition rather than serving as a separate decorative addition.

The original acrylic painting is created on canvas permanently mounted onto a 6 mm board made from natural hardwood. It is set within an integrated pinewood frame approximately 3 cm wide. The total dimensions, including the frame, are 47 × 37 cm. The surface is protected with varnish, and the painting is signed by Mathias and ready to hang.

This compact Amsterdam painting brings colour, movement and a strong sense of place into an interior without relying on a conventional postcard view. It is particularly suited to collectors who remember Amsterdam through its canals, bridges and passing boats, as well as those looking for an original hand-painted cityscape with a distinctive contemporary impressionistic character.
